Tuberculosis rapid tests, also called one-step TB tests, are a chromatographic immunoassay (CIA) for direct qualitative detection of tuberculosis antibody in human serum or plasma specimens. TB rapid test kits are widely used as an aid in the diagnosis of infection due to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, because this test is easy to perform. With serum or plasma samples added to sample window of the rapid TB test cassette, we will get the assay result in about 15 minutes, instead of waiting for days for the testing result with other complicated testing procedure.
Tuberculosis rapid test cassette employs a unique combination of a specific antibody binding protein conjugated to colloidal gold particles and antigens, which are bound to the membrane solid phase. As the test samples flow laterally through the membrane in the one-step tuberculosis test, the specific antibody binding protein dye conjugate binds to the human immunoglobulins in the sample. In a positive sample any antibodies to tuberculosis bind to the antigens on the solid phase in the test region forming a pink line. In a negative sample (absence of tuberculosis antibodies), no line appears at the test region. The liquid continues to migrate along the membrane and forms a pink line in the Control region demonstrating that the test functions properly.
