The direct low-density lipoprotein cholesterol test (direct LDL-C) measures the amount of LDL cholesterol,
sometimes called "bad" cholesterol, in the blood. Elevated levels of
LDL-C are associated with an increased risk of hardening of the arteries
(atherosclerosis) and heart disease.
